Gender and Sexuality SRIG
A Special Research Interest Group (SRIG) of NAfME
GRIME (Gender Research in Music Education) was founded in 1991 at the first Feminist Theory and Music Conference. It is an international organization encouraging gender research in music education. GRIME International (present name) meets in odd-numbered years at its Feminist Theory and Music conferences. These have been held in Europe, Canada, and throughout the United States. GRIME publishes newsletters and an online journal, G.E.M.S. (Gender, Education, Music and Society), which was founded in 2002.
The MENC GRIME SRIG (Special Research Interest Group) was founded in 1998 to promote research on gender issues in music education. The organization meets in even-numbered years at national conferences of MENC, which is now NAfME (National Association for Music Education). The name of the group was changed to the NAfME Gender and Sexuality SRIG in 2014 to better reflect the SRIG membership, research interests, and needs for research in music education.
