Gender & Sexuality SRIG
Nicholas McBride is Associate Professor and Coordinator of Music Education at The College of New Jersey where he teaches various undergraduate courses in Music Education. In addition, he has advised Masters Theses and taught graduate History & Philosophy of Music Education at Westminster Choir College, The University of Delaware, and Rutgers University. Dr. McBride's research interests include LGBTQIA+ and Gender issues in Music Education, Music Teacher Education, Teacher Evaluation, and Empathic Learning Processes in Music Education. His research appears in The Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Music Education Research, Visions of Research in Music Education, and the Music Educators Journal. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of General Music Education. McBride has authored chapters and contributed to the texts From Disruption to Discovery: Music Teacher-Educators' Stories of Pandemic Teaching and Visionary Futures, Narratives and Reflections in Music Education: Listening to Voices Seldom Heard, Teaching Music through Performance in Middle School Choir, and Planning Instruction in Music. He is also co-editor of the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Gender & Queer Studies in Music Education. Dr. McBride is the 2017 winner of the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Council of Research in Music Education. He earned doctoral and master's degrees in Music Education from Teachers College-Columbia University, his dual masters in Choral Conducting and Music Education with honors from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Westminster Choir College.
